Notes for Taste Of Cherry

Film: Taste Of Cherry

Year Of Release: 1997

Director: Abbas Kiarostami

Notes from viewing number 1 (16.10.2021)

Rating: 10/10

- After loving Kiarostami's 1987 masterpiece Where Is The Friend's House, I was expecting to love this, and I ended up loving it more than Where Is The Friend's House.

- Kiarostami continues his trend of minimalist filmmaking, and does so amazingly. This is probably his greatest film when it comes to cinematography. I don't think Iran has ever been captured on camera with so much detail and beauty. The minimalist filmmaking is also stunning and always keeps you at the edge of your seat while also being a slow burn.

- This film is almost entirely made out of dialogue, which may sound boring, but the dialogue is incredibly gripping.

- Choosing not to reveal the fate of the main character and instead show footage from the making of the film is a daring choice, but it's more effective than anything else could be. You just start reflecting back on the entire film. Great ending.
